As seen at New Kid‘s. A not-unreasonable result, considering. I grew up in the “midwest,”* moved to the West Coast for 9 years, spent 5 years in the Northeast, and am back on the west coast now. I’m fairly sure my accents have all merged into one amorphous blob.**

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you’re a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

*The state I grew up in is really not in the “midwest,” despite popular opinion that claims otherwise. This continues to annoy me. It’s simple geography, people. (Though I guess that now, the Midwest is more of a cultural than a geographical area?)

**As I think I’ve mentioned before, I had a Canadian accent until I was about 15. No one knows why. My mom has a Pennsylvania accent (she “warshes” the dishes, for example), and my dad immigrated to this country from Middle Eastern Country as an adult, so he has a heavy accent. But no one knows the source of my odd Canadian twang as a child.
