Weezy is right–we should start a pool.
I have no idea how to run a pool, of course. So (unless someone else wants to set up a Buzz/Boblet pool), I’m suggesting instead that y’all should feel free to leave your guesses in the comments here. (Remember, friends, we’re guessing the baby’s sex, NOT its gender. You can leave gender guesses, too, but that will get more complicated. For now, feel free to just guess “girl” or “boy”.)
To help you out, I have conducted some very scientific tests.
- Madame Zaritska offered this prediction: “The day you deliver, outside will be slightly overcast. Your baby will arrive in the afternoon. After a labor lasting approximately 15 hours, your child, a boy, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 15 ounces, and will be 19 inches long. This child will have light blue eyes and a lot of hair.” (Yeah, we’ll see…Madame Zaritska’s cockiness is kind of annoying.)
- The “Ancient Chinese Gender Predictor” says “boy”.
- This “Old Wives’ Tale” predictor says we have a 61% chance of having a girl.
- This other quiz says “girl” too.
- This page says “girl”, but includes the not-so-confidence-inspiring sentence, “Amusingly enough it works! Or is it?”
- My mom, GB’s mom and dad, and my sister are all absolutely positive it’s a girl. No other family members have ventured guesses.
- I have absolutely no “intuition” about this. At all. Neither does GB.
So….wanna play? Leave your guess in the comments, and feel free to ask any questions that will help you decide…

I am due in February with a baby girl and also have a three year old son. The gender prediction tests were wrong with both of them, but one old wive’s tale has held true for me and all of the women I know. With my son I carried all out in front like a basketball and very high, with my daughter I am carrying very low and wide. From your hunger and first trimester sickness I would say boy but, how are you carrying?

Hi LillyRose! (And congrats on your upcoming baby girl!) Unfortunately, it’s still a little early for me to figure out how I’m carrying. Right now, my belly is still mostly just my regular belly fat getting pushed up a little by my uterus (which is still pretty low). So right now, I’m “carrying” low (and definitely wide), but none of what I can see is actually baby. 😛
I’ll have to wait until I’m showing more and see if this holds true…neat. 🙂

The “low and wide”/ “out front like a basketball” thing has totally been true for most women I know, just sayin’.

I can’t wait to hear what you’re having, I’m a geek about that sort of thing, particularly because picking names can be a really neat process.

i guess girl. and let me just say, i wouldn’t trust madame whatshername. i took the test too and apparently i’m having a girl. what a crock psychic! i’m not even pregnant. though it is christmas, you can never rule out an immaculate conception this time of year…
December 10, 2007 at 2:34 pm
I want to know what we’re having so we can get back to work on the names! Right now we have a handful for a boy and a handful for a girl, but we haven’t given it anymore thought…but I’m excited to actually get to work on it! 🙂
Maggie–it’s so weird to me that that one is actually accurate…now I can’t wait to see if it’s true for me!

I predict that you are having a GIRL (like everyone else I know right now who is pregnant!) Those quizzes are funny!

I’m sensing a little boy that will be the love of your life– buy the little badass leather jacket. I think we need a date and time pool!
December 10, 2007 at 5:58 pm
Weezy–the kid will get the badass leather jacket regardless. 🙂 If you wanna start up the date & time pool, take it away! 🙂

What happened to the white kitten (which I read first as whale kitten- I was mesmorized by the thought of it)? If I can’t guess kitten, I’m going to go with girl.

The “how you’re carrying” thing really has been true for friends of mine. And also for me, with twins. Corwin’s side was higher and more out front, and Clara was lower and I seriously stuck out more on that side. I had this oddly lumpy belly. Of course, that could just be ’cause there wasn’t much room in there!
I’m betting girl (although twins are fun – has that entirely been ruled out? 🙂
December 10, 2007 at 10:17 pm
Dancingfish–the white kitten really was pretty adorable. It had lovely blue eyes. I’m voting kitten. 🙂
Canada–no twins here–there’s just the one Buzzlet!
So how big do I have to get before I can tell if I’m carrying high or low?
December 11, 2007 at 4:30 am
By 18-20 weeks I think you should definitely know because you will start to get “the belly”, in other words your uterus will have grown enough that you’ll be able to feel it and visibly see where it’s position is.

i don’t know anything about pregnancy (other than i am more than happy to let other people go through it:) is there any reasoning behind the low and wide vs high and basketball wisdom?
damn right the lil’buzzlet should have a bad ass leather jacket!

I’m guessing boy. But I’m always wrong. So I’ll go with girl.

A pool, a pool! /jumps in/
Girl. 1 week past due date. 10:30 am your local time.

a girl; June 8th; 9:32pm
December 12, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Is it too late to play? I’m guessing boy, eight pounds one ounce to be born in the late evening of June second. Though I’m not sure if that’s my time or yours.
December 12, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Gretty–it’s not too late to play until the baby shows up! 🙂
